very nice! I've never seen you do anything like this before, very interesting. I wish there were progress pictures, im really curious as to how you did this!

Thank you =D
I thought about doing in progress scans, but I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out, so I didn't..
Next time I do something similar to this, I'll do in progress scans. I basically painted the background first, trying to make it slightly blurry/out of focus... which is something I'm trying to work on - depth of field...
And then I painted the wolf a medium purplish grey tone, and blocked in the lighter and darker parts with a fur texture, and then just built on top of that, refining it slowly as a whole until I felt it was done... adding a little backlighting around the character, etc.
And I had a couple of reference pics to help with patterning and facial structure - and a picture of the moon =).
Something I am really liking about acrylics is that if I mess up, I can always paint over it

Ah thank you for explaining! That makes a bit of sense. Granted I've been curious to experiment with acrylics myself. Maybe I should give it a go ;D I've been toying with the idea of starting with a mid tone like that and building lights and darks. Now that I see that it works maybe I'll be a bit more brave :)

No problem =)
I would definitely recommend working with acrylics, specifically Golden fluid acrylics... I'm still getting the hang of them, but I find them to be a lot more forgiving than most other traditional media, as you can pretty much layer until you're satisfied... And yeah, starting with the mid tone was really helpful - this was my first time doing that; I got the tip out of a book on painting wildlife =)

Wow... This kind of art is why I've got you in my Watching list. You are amazing. I can never draw or paint like that, no matter how hard I try. Just go look at my artwork. ^-^*sweatdrop*
